Exactech® Implant Recall:

Exactech® have admitted implants manufactured since 2004 may have shipped in defective packaging. The bags these joint replacements were being stored in did not meet necessary requirements to protect the device from oxygen. Oxygen wears away at the “ultra high molecular weight polyethylene insert” causing it to require replacement or revision surgery.  When the liners start to fail plastic particles shed from the liner and the body identifies the particles as foreign substances and responds with deterioration of the bone called osteolysisSurgeons have implanted at least 142,732 of these potentially defective devices. This means thousands of Americans could suffer complications from medical devices that fail early.

The implant recall includes:

  • OPTETRAK® Knee
  • OPTETRAK Logic® Knee
  • TRULIANT® Knee
  • VANTAGE® Ankle

You may be entitled to compensation if you were implanted with an Exactech® device since 2004 and you had or need revision surgery.
